Tips To Help Your Dog Live Longer

Every pet parent wishes that their pets live long and happy lives. We are ready to do all that we can to give them the healthiest and happiest lives while they’re with us. Here are a few things (in addition to regular dog washes) that could very well lengthen a dog’s lifespan.

Exercise is important not just for humans— it’s also very effective in keeping your dog healthy as well. Exercise can improve mood, lower stress and increase endorphins in your pup, the same way it does for you. A visit to the local dog wash after a hectic active session is highly recommended.

Potential health problems

Educate yourself on potential health issues that your dog may face. Keep an eye out for warning signs and when to see a doctor. More common symptoms include changes in appetite, bad breath or drooling; lower activity levels, disrupted sleep patterns; breathing problems; digestive issues and others. It’s best to consult a vet about common symptoms to watch out for in your dog’s particular breed.

Diet matters

It really does matter whether your pup eats low-quality food bought from the local pet store or organic, homemade meals. Pets that are fed a quality diet have a healthy appearance – shiny skin, hair coat and bright eyes. A good diet can boost your pet’s immune system, improve intestinal health, increase mental acuity, keep joints and muscles healthy, and so on.

Weight Watching

Those cute and chubby dogs aren’t necessarily healthy and typically don’t tend to live long lives. So if you want your pet with you for a long time, it’s important that you keep him lean. Overweight or obese pets are at risk for heart disease, joint problems and diabetes among other issues.

Spay or neuter your dog

It’s healthier and safer to spay or neuter your pet, unless you’d like your dog to have puppies, of course. After the procedure, they won’t experience any hormonal fluctuations and stressful physical issues that accompany canine reproduction. Removing such stress will have them remain healthier longer.

A stress-free life

Just like with humans, stress can severely impact your pet’s life. So you need to do all you can throughout the year to ensure that your dog remains happy and stress-free. That includes upkeep of hygiene and regular washes in a tub.

Dogs need their essential DHPP and rabies shots, but it can be important to really take into consideration any shots that your vet recommends. Some such recommended shots are: Bordetella, Canine Influenza, Corona Virus, Leptospirosis, and Lyme Disease.

Mental stimulation

A mentally inactive dog may turn depressed, anxious and sick. It may also start to act out. One way to can extend your dog’s life and make it pleasant is by keeping him entertained and mentally agile. With age, keep his/her mind active with socialization, training, games, one-on-one attention, and other mindful activities. An occasional trip to a pet friendly store with a dog wash unit can be very helpful too!
